Every year, the percentage of people getting veneers increases. Smiles are transformed by the beautiful ceramic material that is attached to the front surface of the teeth. Misshapen teeth, misalignments, discoloration, and chipped or cracked teeth are turned into people’s dream smiles. Maybe the unknown process is the only thing keeping you from taking that first step. Here is what you can expect from the dental veneer process in Louisville before you decide to take the steps to your dream smile!

Step 1: Step into the Future

The first step is an initial consultation. Your dentist will provide a dental examination, verify if veneers are a match for you, and provide details about the procedure. X-rays and impressions of your mouth and teeth may be taken. You can discuss your smile goals and any issues you would like corrected. This is your time to share exactly what you envision—whether it is a subtle change or a Hollywood-style makeover! A complete treatment plan can be made based on all the information gathered.

Step 2: Preview Step

Now it’s time to see what your new smile would look like! There are a few ways your dentist can show you what the veneers would look like before you fully commit to them. They might create a life-size exact model of your teeth and shape wax “veneers” onto them. They can also provide you with trial veneers that are made from acrylic plastic or tooth-colored filling material, which can be placed directly on your teeth.

Step 3: Preparing for the Climb

Once a clear plan is established, it is time to prepare your teeth for the veneers. Your dentist will reshape the surface of your teeth by removing enamel. The amount removed will be the amount needed to place the veneer–about as thick as a contact lens. The goal is always to remove as little of the dental structure as possible. Then an impression of your teeth will be made to custom-fit your veneers.

Step 4: Temporary Step

You are almost done! Your dental impressions will be sent to a dental laboratory so your veneers can be made. Permanent veneers are typically completed in 2-4 weeks. What will your teeth look like in the meantime? No worries! You will be given a set of provisional veneers. They will look and function like your permanent set with the exception that they are not quite as strong or firmly bonded in place. It is a great chance to see if there are any changes or alterations to be made; these can be communicated to your dentist and altered on the permanent set.

Step 5: Bright Smile from the Top of the Staircase

The big day is here! Your veneers have been crafted and now it is time for them to be bonded to the outer surface of your teeth. Both your teeth and the inside of the veneers will be “etched” with a mild acidic solution. Then a special cement will be used to fuse your teeth and veneers together. Your dazzling smile has arrived!

Veneers are an excellent option to get your dream smile. Once you know the process, you can begin the steps to turn that dream into a reality. You will find it will be worth every step!
