Why Patients Love Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers have been used by our dentists for years to correct the look of:

  • Gaps
  • Chips
  • Cracks
  • Stains
  • Worn Teeth
  • Crookedness

Almost any flaw you might have can be covered by porcelain veneers! These thin shells of stain-resistant porcelain are not one-size-fits-all. When you visit our Louisville, KY dental office, we match the size, shape, and shade of your porcelain veneers to make sure your new smile comes out looking natural. People often fear the porcelain veneers will look fake. However, we’ve completed many, many successful cases that we can show you, and our patients are pleased with the lifelike results.

The Porcelain Veneers Process

The first step in your porcelain veneers process is to consult with one of our dentists about treatment options. He answers questions, inspects your oral health, and draws up a complete treatment plan that maps out the entire process. Once we’ve planned your treatment, we begin by preparing teeth to be fit for the veneers. Because the porcelain takes up a tiny bit of space, we need to make minor modifications to your smile to make room for them. After this is done, we take impressions to custom fit your porcelain veneers.

Next, a dental lab creates your porcelain veneers to our exact specifications. The veneers return to our office, at which point you come in and we make sure they’re to your liking. If so, we bond them to your teeth. If not, we modify them until they are picture perfect. We want every patient to be satisfied with the results offered at Remmers Dental. Finally, you walk out of our office with an amazing new smile!

Are you struggling with one or more dental flaws in your smile? If so, then you might consider enhancing your pearly whites with veneers! Although you can expect to enjoy numerous benefits from these wafer-thin porcelain shells, it’s natural for you to have a few concerns about the procedure before beginning any work. To help you be well-informed, our team at Remmers Dental has collected and responded to several of our most frequently asked questions about this cosmetic treatment. Read on or give us a call today if you wish to learn more about veneers in Louisville!

Are Veneers Permanent?

While veneers are made of porcelain and are durable enough to last a long time, they aren’t considered a permanent cosmetic solution. You’ll eventually have to replace them after years of use. However, the only part that’s irreversible is the preparation process. Our team will need to remove a small portion of your enamel to make room for your veneers, which will not grow back on its own. This means you’ll need to cover your exposed teeth with either veneers or dental crowns going forward.

Do Veneers Give You a Lisp?

Some patients find it difficult to pronounce certain words or sounds when first receiving their veneers. This is partly due to muscle memory, as your tongue will need to grow accustomed to the tiny difference in the thickness of your porcelain shells on your smile. Fortunately, even if you do develop a lisp, it will only be temporary. You should be able to speak as fluently as before once you get used to having your veneers. Of course, you can speed this process up by practicing pronouncing challenging words and phrases, such as the ‘S’ and ‘V’ sounds, as well as conversing with family and friends to get used to your new pearly whites.

Will I Still Be Able to Drink Coffee with Veneers?

Your veneers will be constructed out of porcelain, which is non-porous and highly resistant to staining. Any particles in dark-colored foods and beverages will have a more difficult time slipping beneath the surface of your brand-new teeth. This means you should be able to enjoy all of your favorite meals and drinks, including coffee. That said, your veneers won’t be stain-proof, as they can become discolored if you drink coffee too often. Moderation is the way to go!

Is There Anything I Can’t Eat with Veneers?

Once your affected teeth are prepared for your veneers, you’ll need to wear a temporary set as you wait for your final ones to be fabricated. Since these provisional teeth aren’t as durable as your permanent ones will be, you’ll need to avoid hard, crunchy, and sticky foods that can dislodge them. After you’ve received your final veneers, you’ll be able to eat whatever you want just like you could with your natural pearly whites! Just be sure to exercise caution to prevent any damage in the long run. For instance, you should avoid overconsuming alcohol, which can weaken the bonding material holding your porcelain shells in place.
